Under-average grain harvest, bone-dry ground – 2020 was the third year in a row by weather extremes

Overall, grain harvests amounted to around 42.4 million tonnes. This remained around two million tonnes (= just five percent) under the average of the period from 2015 to 2019. While the Sude of Germany is relatively good, the east had to accept strong harvesting pits for persistent Durre.

The harvest pits are either massive dryness or. Head or Spatfrosten or. owed to the mass occurrence of mouses, it is called in the harvesting board of the DBV. Only in June was enough rain. The grounds distributed regionally very different.

While the average yield of all cereal types with seven tonnes per hectare corresponds approximately to the years of 2015 to 2019. However, the cereal buddool falls around 24.1 million hectares around 240.000 hectares (= four percent) smaller than in the long-term average. Depending on precipitation distribution and floor-to-ground, the applicant were also highly high. And some companies recorded higher harvest pits than others.

Less earnings on lower cultivation

Lower cultivation and experiment was mainly at winter barley and wheat, winter ryes and triticals, as current data show. In particular, winter wheat was less than 2.8 million hectares and thus took nearly 300.000 hectares less cultivation in claim than in the year before.

This year, 21.1 million tons of wheat were harvested. Last year, there were still 22.8 million tonnes. After all, an average hectare yield of 7.6 tons per hectare was achieved nationwide. The yield was a bit higher than in the previous year.

Even with the winter barle, the cultivation class with 1.3 million hectares was slightly less than 2019. Less was also the hectare yield with 6.7 tons. The was still 7.2 tonnes in the previous year.

In addition to the dryness in Marz and April, the nightfrosts were named as a cause in May. In some areas, it even given Totalausfalle, or. The barley was harvested early for whole plant silage. A total of 8.8 million tons of winter barleies were brought by the field, around one million tonnes less than in the previous year.

In contrast, the cultivation of summer barley were around 10.000 hectares on a total of 367.000 hectare expanded. The harvesting carriage rose from 1.8 to 1.9 million tonnes, because the hectarious income was highly high with 5.1 tons as in the previous year. With optimal protein content, summer stress is processed as a brewery.

However, this year to the particularly low producer price of currently 163 euros, which is thus 20 euros below the previous year’s price. One reason was the retention of guest states and tagged coarse events. With the Lockdown the beer sales reduced, which in turn braked the demand for brewing stress.

Dryness causes feed deficiency

Only in the bearing of winter roges was a light plus recorded. On the one hand, the classroom fell with 634.000 hectares against the average of the last six years above average. Although the response per hectare of 5.5 tonnes were seven percent above the multiannual average.

In total, 3.5 million tons of winter rogues were harvested, but because of the feed shortness, part of it is baked to single plant silage and thus the Korner acquisition is not available, it is called in the press release of the DBV.

Although the situation had improved regionally after the gross dryness in the spring year this year. In some regions, however, animal feed is almost similar to the two Durescommeren 2018 and 2019. Therefore, Minister of Agriculture Julia Klockner also allows farmers to use such flat strongers in this summer, which were limited for environmental protection matters.

Heat and dryness in August have allowed a pulled cereal and rapeseed harvest. But cultures like corn, potatoes and sugarubrene, which are still in the middle of earning formation, are increasingly suffering from water deficiency.

Due to decreasing prices, many agricultural enterprises are in an economically tense situation. Although the EU runs after the annual harvest with 282 million tonnes of two millions of tons of cereals than 2019. Thus, the EU and Great Britain exported only 978 in the first six weeks of the current marketing year.000 tonnes of soft wheat – a ridge of 61 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

Nevertheless hours the producer prices through the expected "Comfortable supply of the world market and the strong competition on the export markets under prere". Especially the producer prices for bread wheat have fallen.

Rape harvest from year to year

Already last year, the rape harvest had suffer from the consequences of the Durresommer 2018. This summer, the following symptoms of the Corona crisis are added. Although the rapeseed harvested with 3.3 million tonnes by 0.5 million tonnes significantly better than in the previous year, but remains 20 percent behind the multiannual average of 4.1 million tonnes due to the small decking class. 2020 was rape on a flat of 954.000 hectare grown, two percent more towards the last year.

Tendency is the rapeseed cultivation in the sink flight. Already last summer, many farmers waived the sowing of rapeseed because they fired due to expected drought yields. This trend was allowed to continue this year. From 2015 to 2019, 1.2 million hectares of rape were grown on average. After all, the rape carrier per hectare with 3.5 tonnes per hectare are slightly over the average of this period.

The cultivation of dryworthiness varieties use little when it does not rain for six to seven weeks, Joachim Rukied explains. To hedge the companies against bad harvesting, the Prasident of the German Farmers Association calls for one "Individual risk provisions by state supported multi-pace insurance as well as the importation of a tax profit proposal". The farmers should use multiple hazard insurance increasing durre risks.

For the imminent rapeseed seed, rain is quantifier than ever. Plant construction consultants recommend moving the rape exhausters, the floor should have a dust dry and no rain in view. Also commodity mulching an alternative to plow, because a mulching edition reduces evaporation and protects against erosion in hillside layers. Again a year ago, agrarian experts repurchase a series of herbicides – for pre- and downflow and after the aftertreatment in autumn.

Meanwhile, lack of evaluation of important rapeseed shadles increase the risk of yield, which reduced the multiannual high-speed contributor, as it is called in the press release of the DBV.

Profitable scattering meadows

Since mid-August, apple fall from the tree – including several varieties that actually become ripe only. So a tree also casts immature fruits when it is called with the crowd, it is called.

Due to the dry early year, it was not good for the fruit harvest at all. The rain in June supplied the scattered tree again with water. Already at the end of July, fruit juice manufacturers counted with a crop yield of around 850.000 tons of scattering panels.

Due to pfytohormones, in fruit trees are harvest fluctuations – the so-called natural aging – observed in the two-year serry’s seedth: in one year the tree can hardly wear the FULLE to fruition, in the next year hardly an apple hangs on the branch.

After a weak harvest year 2019 takes place with only about 200.000 tonnes this year a slightly big harvest with 850.000 tons. However, this is still well below the record year of 2018 with 1.1 million tonnes of apple. There are also regional differences in fruit construction. In the southeast of Germany, where about half of the nationwide scattering stock, the harvest falls relatively high.

Due to low ground in the east of Germany, the harvest is presumably lower there. Due to the high producer prices, the organic share in some stray sites has risen to more than half of them, it is called, so that the acidic conventional product is rather scarce.

If one believes the world association for apple and pears (WAPA), the production volume in the EU was made from professional cultivation at 10.71 million tonnes – around 72.000 tonnes less than in the weak previous year. Although in many regions with a higher pronouncement result, Younu-yearfrosted had hurt the yield in some regions again, explain the market experts.

In contrast, pears with an EU-wide increase in production of 12 percent towards the previous year to 2.20 million tonnes. Especially Italy stamps with 279.000 tonnes of pears the low-portion in EU pear production. For Germany, after all, a pronounced result of 43.000 tonnes expected, around 1.000 tonnes more than last year.

Concern about harvest hat for Corona mails

Meanwhile, apple farmers on Lake Constance provide that a lot of harvesting from Poland and Romania arrive. What if the "Second wave" comes? So in Lindau season fuss after entering Covid-19 are tested.

Working can only be done when the result is present. Let the test results have to be watched, then watching the apple, which are as early as the apple, which fall as otherwise, from the baws, complains Martin Nuberlin from the producer community of Lindau fruit farmers.

To prevent infections possible, only smaller harvest groups work together. Furthermore, there should be disinfectant. The employer must have one "Danger assessment" Create, requires the Stuttgart Ministry of Economic Affairs. With all serious the situation you have to stay optimistic.

"As long as we can implement a regional production here, that’s the best we can do", explains an apple maker from Frickingen. Also in the bodybuilding area in the old country on the Niederelbe one is relatively optimistic. Here comes a rough part of the harvesting lighters from Poland. They have experiences at this annual harvest of strawberries and asparagus and are already used to restricts by the virus.
